The Thrill of Vintage Hunting

Turning Old Goodies into Unique Treasures

There’s nothing quite like the excitement of vintage hunting! Whether it’s at a flea market, a second-hand shop, or even a dusty attic, I absolutely love digging through old goodies to find those special, one-of-a-kind pieces.

The best part? Not only do I shop for myself, but I also love shopping for clients, family, and friends. Let’s be honest, spending other people’s money is always a bit more fun, right?

Vintage Hunting: It’s an Art

There’s an art to vintage hunting. You’ve got to stay focused, stick to your vision, and most importantly—don’t get carried away! The thrill of the hunt is real, but before you know it, you’re leaving with five extra vases, a random set of plates, and a velvet chair you don’t even need. Trust me, I’ve been there! And where do those extras end up? Yep, right back at the thrift shop!

Stick to Your Vision

Here’s my number one tip: when you’re out there vintage shopping, always have a plan. Know what you’re looking for and don’t let the shiny distractions lead you astray. Got your eye on a beautiful brass lamp? Great! Stick to the mission.

If you don’t need a new chair, or a set of kitchen scales from the '50s, walk away. You’ll thank yourself later.

Shop for Pieces That Tell a Story

What I love most about vintage finds is that every piece has a story. Whether it’s a wooden trunk with faded initials or a porcelain teapot with intricate details, these items are packed with history and character.

My secret is to choose pieces that really speak to me, pieces I can picture in my home or in a client’s space. I don’t just shop for the sake of it—I shop with intention.

Personalizing Spaces with Vintage Finds

I adore mixing vintage with contemporary décor, adding that touch of uniqueness to any room. That beautiful hand-carved mirror or the perfectly weathered coffee table can completely transform a space.

And it’s not just for me—I love helping others find that one special item that fits perfectly into their home. It’s all about creating something unique and personal.

Vintage Shopping: Tips and Tricks

Now, here are my golden rules for vintage shopping:

  1. Make a List – Know what you’re hunting for. Need a side table? Focus on side tables, and don’t get distracted by all the extras!

  2. Quality Over Quantity – It’s easy to fall for bargains, but don’t forget to check the quality. That “great deal” isn’t so great if it falls apart a month later.

  3. Check for Damage – Always inspect your items thoroughly. A little wear and tear is part of the charm, but big cracks or structural issues? Not so much.

  4. Don’t Buy Just to Buy – Only buy what you really love or need. If it’s not going to fit in your home (or a client’s), put it back!

  5. Be Prepared to Walk Away – If it’s not perfect or if it’s outside of your budget, don’t be afraid to leave empty-handed. The perfect piece will come along.

Saving Vintage Pieces from the Past

I get so much joy from breathing new life into old treasures, whether it’s an antique sideboard or a quirky set of mismatched plates. And honestly, there’s something magical about knowing you’ve saved a piece from ending up in a landfill—and turned it into something beautiful instead.

So next time you’re out hunting for that vintage gem, remember: stick to your guns, stay focused, and only buy what you absolutely love. Because let’s face it, you don’t want to be the person hauling it back to the thrift store in a month!

Happy vintage hunting!
