Natural Materials & Soft Natural Color Palette

Natural materials and a soft natural color palette are always the foundation of my styling.

They bring warmth, calm, and balance to a home like my CARAMEL OAT PALETTE which I used as a color scheme for our apartment.

Lately, I feel a deep longing for lightness — for whites that feel soft and layered, where pale chalk tones meet sun-washed textures.

These soft natural colors are perfect for creating calm interiors that invite spring into your home, even before it arrives. Feel free to use my mood boards as inspiration to let spring enter your home.

Eight Weeks & a Horizon

We've booked our mini-vacation!

It’s still eight weeks until we leave for Crete, and yet the anticipation is already a delight.

After the long, demanding months of rebuilding our apartment — from dust-filled days to hands-on work with natural materials — this holiday feels like a soft exhale waiting on the horizon.

Something to dream about.

Something to look forward to.

The Whites I’m Longing For

When I imagine Crete, I see whites in many shades: chalky, creamy, faded by sun and salt.

My PALE CHALK palette comes alive there, a ton-sur-ton palette of soft whites that flow effortlessly into one another. Perfect for calm interiors, natural styling, and soft layering in home design. These are whites that carry texture, story, and a quiet lived-in feel.

A World Softened by Salt & Time

I've always been drawn to weathered, shabby-chic beauty.

Old doors with peeling paint (check, got those in the house as we speak).

Rough wood softened by sun (yup you'll find them as shelfs in the toilet area).

Walls kissed by salt and sand (also got that covered with a matte paint).

These textures, combined with a soft natural color palette, create calm interiors that feel genuine.

Every fragment of time-worn beauty whispers a story, waiting to be captured and later recreated in homes. That’s why I feel so deeply drawn to old, weathered materials — they are unique and jam packed with history.

On the Lookout for Inspiration

This is how I will wander (I'm already there in my mind): slowly, camera in hand, eyes searching for old, weathered details in wood, stone, and faded paint. These textures become inspiration for my work, guiding how I layer natural materials, ton-sur-ton palettes, and I use my PALE CHALK shades to craft calm, lived-in interiors for my clients.

Pale Chalk & Dusty Olive

Alongside whites, I love how muted tones like my DUSTY OLIVE MOOD BOARD anchor the palette. Against pale chalk whites and sun-bleached wood, it adds depth and warmth. Another ton-sur-ton palette I adore and created, perfect for shabby-chic styling and soft natural interiors. I can't wait to start using this soft green color palette on my balcony.

Rest Before Creation

This trip will also be about rest — letting our bodies and minds recover after the intensity of rebuilding. Walking slowly, observing textures, and soaking in natural light feeds my creativity.

Lets not forget to mention that I will lay on my butt to rest, read, read and read some more.

Talking to M while sipping on a cool wine.

To recover to the fullest.

I hope to return full with inspiration for calm interiors, layered with soft natural color palettes, weathered materials, and the subtle stories only time can create (and hopefully a zen soul and body and a suitcase full with old weathered treasures, but don't tell M.)

Until Then

For now, I linger in the dreaming.

Caramel Oat, Pale Chalk, Dusty Olive, sun-faded wood, salty textures — all waiting to be captured, collected, and transformed into interiors that feel soft, calm, and timeless.

Eight weeks feels long to look forward to our trip, yet inspiration has already begun.

This is how I travel.

This is how I create.

Up and onward to a well deserved break and mini-holiday.

With love,

Dagmar
