Christmas Mode: Almost On

By Dagmar – wrapped up in cozy corners and holiday magic
Somewhere between wrapping the last gift (with slightly too much ribbons), lighting a candle just because it’s dark at 4 PM, and saving far too many posts on Instagram, I officially enter Christmas mode.

This year, Christmas will look a little different — and honestly? I’m very okay with that.
Instead of styling my own home to perfection, I’m looking forward to spending Christmas at my brother and sister-in-law’s place. My parents will be there, our two grown-up boys and their lovely girls, all of us coming and going, eating small bites throughout the day and into the evening. Gathered around the fire, a warm beverage always within reach, unwrapping presents while sitting close to the ones I love. Relaxed. Cozy. Exactly how Christmas should feel.
In between the days spent working on the apartment, there will also be days of rest.
The kind I’m already dreaming about. Snuggled up on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, watching good old movies that feel like Christmas comfort food. On the list: The Holiday (yes again), Love Actually (because yes, all you need is love), The Polar Express (for the kid in me), The Sound of Music (love the songs) — and of course, the Sisi trilogy (for the 50th time, cuz i'm a sucker for old movies and romance). Moments like these are the ones I truly can’t wait for.

Right now, I’m in full wrapping mode. Paper everywhere, ribbons that refuse to behave, Christmas carols on the speaker while I sing along (my hubby is wearing earphones due to the fact that I sound like a foghorn) and that quiet, happy feeling that comes with preparing something for the people you love. It feels like a pause — a well-deserved break from working on the apartment and all the decisions that come with it.
And of course, inspiration is everywhere.
Instagram, Pinterest, window shopping on cold afternoons — I’m soaking it all in.
Minimal Christmas corners, soft lights, natural textures, calm colour palettes. Even if I won’t be translating it into my own home this year (hello, move), it’s all being saved. Collected slowly. Ready for later.
For now, I’m styling Christmas in smaller ways — ideas you can easily bring into your own home:
Wooden trays layered with candles instead of full centrepieces
Linen napkins casually tied with string or a sprig of green
A simple wooden stool or bench holding a linen pillow and a single spruce branch
Letting natural materials shine, without over-decorating
Minimal doesn’t mean empty.
With wood, linen and wool, it becomes warm, calm, and quietly festive.
So this season, I’m decorating with anticipation instead of ornaments. With family instead of perfection. And with a head full of ideas that will find their place — soon enough.
For now, I’m wrapping gifts, gathering inspiration, and counting down to fireside conversations, cozy couches, old movies, and those slow, beautiful moments that make this season what it is.
To you, who are reading this — thank you for being here. I wish you a happy, merry, beautiful Christmas, filled with warmth, quiet moments, soft light, and the kind of love that makes everything feel just right.
And my heart goes out to all those — no matter your colour, gender, country, faith, culture, age, or circumstance — who are unable to celebrate Christmas in warmth, safety, or peace this year.
You are seen, you are held in thought, and you are not forgotten.
May this season bring gentleness where it’s needed most, hope where it feels far away, and small lights in dark places.
From my heart to yours, I wish you a Christmas wrapped in kindness, compassion, and love.
With a very full heart,
Dagmar
